The Governor has declared a state of emergency

The declaration set the stage for a variety of emergency actions that the Governor is now empowered to order. So actual instructions may not be issued unless deemed necessary and when the Governor believes the timing is right. Depending on the circumstances, restrictions could be imposed on travel by cars and trucks. What those restrictions may be will be dictated by the storm.

What does this mean to you ? When a State of Emergency is issued, State and/or local Emergency Management officials will communicate with New Jersey's citizens through traditional media outlets such as television, radio and newspapers, and through other information channels, such as the Internet or the Emergency Alert System. Citizens should pay close attention to news reports when a State of Emergency is announced. At times, travel restrictions are part of a State of Emergency. Government offices may be closed, or evacuations may be recommended. A State of Emergency permits government officials to recommend specific actions that citizens should take to insure the safety of their families and homes during the emergency. Large and small private businesses should make informed decisions about early closures, delayed openings, cancellations and closures based on current and impending weather conditions, emergency plans and policies of your organization, designation of essential employees, and restrictions on travel. If travel restrictions are put into place, it will limit whether or not employees can travel to your worksite.

EVACUATIONS

· Cape May County begins a mandatory evacuation of County residents at 0800 hours on 8/26/2011.
· Atlantic County will begin mandatory evacuations of flood prone areas starting 0600 hours on 08-26-11.
· Ocean County will start mandatory evacuations of Long Beach Island and Berkeley Township starting at 0800 hours 8/26/11.

Message From President - January 2011
As I prepared to write my first article for the NJMTA membership as the acting President, my thoughts are focused on the recent tragedy that occurred in Arizona where a Congressman was seriously wounded and 6 others murdered at a political rally. I find myself asking just what is happening to our country.
