FMCSA Schedules Fourth HOS Listening Session

BY :

Thursday, January 14, 2010

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has announced the fourth date in a series of listening sessions to gather information and comments as the agency prepares a rulemaking proposal on hours-of-service (HOS) requirements for property-carrying commercial vehicle drivers.

The agency wants to hear from commercial drivers, carriers, owner-operators, safety advocates, safety enforcement, researchers and others about topics such as rest and on-duty time, sleeper berth use and the effect the current hours-of-service rule has on loading and unloading times for drivers.

The newest listening session will take place:

Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010
Comfort Inn Hotel and Suites in Davenport, Iowa
1 p.m.-9 p.m. Central time
(Within walking distance of the Flying J Travel Plaza)

For more information on the listening sessions, including several questions on possible alternatives to the current HOS requirements, instructions for participating by teleconference, and other ways to comment, visit the FMCSA website at www.fmcsa.dot.gov.
